Put on your thinking caps…

I need a good theme for our first enrichment next month. We want to have a getting to know you night where people bring a few items that represent them. I have been trying to come up with a theme we could use throughout the night…for the lesson, the dinner and the activity. I’m coming up empty for fun themes that will make the sisters excited about attending. I’m trying to think of something to do with a harvest and then they could bring their stuff in baskets…but then I was also thinking about having some yummy salads (“chick food” my friend says). So anyway, if you have any bright ideas or dull ideas 🙂 please post. Thanks for being my enrichment board!

  1. Well, I’ll have to think about it some more, maybe i’ll ask my friend Shauna. You can e-mail her or call her too, remember. She’s always got lots of ideas, and she’s happy to help. 🙂

  2. We did a speed mingling. like a speed dating… but obviously just for the women. I couldnt go so I dont know how it turned out.. but you could do something like that. Or you could make it a game. Like have the women bring something that they love (Talents or hobbies or whatever) and then have everyone guess who it belongs too. That way people would be learning alot about the other women and see if others have the same talents or hobbies as they do. I am going to look in my rhyming dictionary for ideas for a theme though. For some reason I think rhymes just sound good and catchy. but I’ll have to get back to you on that…

  3. Ok, this is what I cam up with. You wont hurt my feelings if you dont use it.Go with the basket idea, but I changed it to a picnic. This is what I came up with for the invitations:They re-did ward linesWhether we like it or notNow here we are togetherThe ______Ward Melting pot!Come join our picnicWe’re spicing up the menuFill your picnic basketWith memoirs of you! Then just be sure to clarify!

  4. Okay, so the only thing I’ve come up with so far is “It’s Fall About You” and then something about harvesting new friendships. What about turning over a new leaf, having each person write a fun fact about themselves on a leaf cutout and then putting it all on a tree. For another random idea you could have them find things they have in common, like birthday month, favorite type of movie, favorite color, favorite food or dessert, etc. and have them congregate in an area for just a few minutes according to their answers. They could somehow tally how many people are in each category with them and at the end see how many people they have things in common with. I hope that made sense, it was really random and off the top of my head. If you use recipes for the salads from three or four different people you could find out from them why they chose that particular salad, if there’s any memory involved with it, you know, like with raspberry jello, and then share that thought with the rest of the sisters, to help them get to know those whose recipes they’re eating. Another random thought! Maybe my sorry ideas will trigger something good for you! Wish I was a creative as Cathyface!

  5. What great ideas! I’m going to save every one of them. THe only thing I could come up with was the little song “Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold.” Then maybe you could do something with silver and gold. Let us know what you did!
