Seeing the Pharisees Part V (the last one)

Just like the advent of the Son of God, His second coming will be marked with marvelous signs and fulfilled prophecies.  And yet he says that He will return as a thief in the night (2 Pet 3:10), quickly (Rev 3:11) and that no man will know the hour of His coming (Matt 24:36).  Despite the unexpectedness, Isaiah says that every knee shall bow and every tongue shall swear that Jesus is the Christ (Isaiah 45:23). But I imagine some of us will be among those who stand, slack-jawed, as we are struck with realization after realization about His true nature.  How will it be?  John says the following in his first epistle:

“Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”  (1 John 3:2)

Will our efforts at obedience lead us to understand His grandeur and goodness or will we find ourselves uncomfortable with the real Him.  Maybe we’re unacquainted with His mercy or maybe we just don’t recognize His sincere and sometimes seemingly obscure ways.  I know that as we seek Him, He is there to be found and He will reveal Himself to us in beautiful, unique ways.  Do you already have experiences with this?  If so, what have they taught you about Him? Is it helping you learn more?  If not, what are you waiting for?

  1. I just caught up on your essays on the Pharisees and it was a lot to take in! Your perspective has really opened my eyes to the complexity of their situation, and made me realize that there is some Pharisee in me, too. I’m grateful for the realization, and for the opportunity I have now to explore those tendencies.

  2. Hey friend. It’s interesting to think about it a bit differently huh? I’d love to hear about anything you learn in your exploration.
